India 2010

We were fortunate to have an opportunity to visit India last month. It was Luke's first trip to India, and we could not have asked for a better traveler! Can you imagine a 2 1/2 year old boy sitting in an airplane seat for 14 hrs with not one complaint? He throughly enjoyed India and had a nice time with family and friends. He definitely enjoyed a world with no boundaries filled with people that loved to spoil him :)

Our precious gift turns 2 years old in 23 days. It is amazing how time flies. What is even more amazing is that the gift God gave to us 23 months ago is appreciated everyday, from the depths of our hearts. When asked how he felt about the last 23 months, Luke merely bent down and exclaimed "CHEESE!!!!!". :)

Time flies when you are having fun! It just seems like yesterday when Erik and Kate came down to Houston. We have shared great times together, with more to come!!!

We had the great opportunity to share the day with Erik as he graduated [from college]. Later that evening, he was spotted exchanging numbers with Donald Trump. I particularly appreciate the fact that, although from New England, Erik chose to honor Philadelphia and the Eagles by wearing ropes representing the colors of the flag of Philadelphia. What a pal!

During our last visit to Chicago, the cousins had an opportunity to hang out. Living far apart

We visited Chicago 2 weeks ago. It was a good time. We went up for our niece's dedication, as well as our friend's engagement. Not to mention, we went to spend time with our family.

Amazingly, Barney still either scares Luke or bores him. Although it is quite obvious that Barney does want to go for a ride, Luke attempts to reason with him. Joyce is reflecting on how soothing it is to be surrounded by kids below the age of 3. This is one of Luke's little pals. It was a spectacular party.

What a day! Later we were pulled over by the police as it appears that Luke absconded with what turns out to have been 2 VERY rare dwarf farm animals. Instead of Jack and the Bean stalk, let us call it Luke and the Karela-stalk...Well, for those of you that are impressed by gardening and home-grown vegatables, especially home-grown Indian vegetables, this picture is for you. I planted a seed about 3 years ago. The sapling grew to about 3-feet and died. The next year, it re-grew to about 12-feet, and died. Both times, no veggies. This year, it er-grew again, but this time to about 20-feet. The good news is that there are HUGE veggies on it. The bad news is, the tree is so tall, I need a ladder to get to the veggies.

We spent July 4th in California. We, along with Uncle Alvie, went up to CA to visit Auntie Lena and Uncle Melvie. They welcomed us into their beautiful home and showed us some of the beautiful things in their neck of the woods. We visited an apple orchard, the beach, the Ford Filling Station (Harrison Ford's son's restaurant), an Outlet Mall, and a couple of vineyards (we actually picked up a couple of bottles from Ponte Vineyards).
We enjoyed spending quality time with our cousins. We had delicious burgers and enjoyed fireworks in their backyard, which looks out at mountains. It was a good time. We look forward to going back sometime! Oh, and for anyone wondering, Luke is NOT drinking wine. He's just sipping it (just kidding!).

Luke's First Birthday!

When they say that time flies, they are not kidding. We cannot believe that Luke is already one year old. It is so fresh on my mind when he first came into the world. I hope we never forget that feeling. Absolutely, the first, and prevailing emotion I have had this first year is thankfulness. We are so thankful that we have Luke. No matter what we have going on, when we turn of the lights at night, there is so much to be thankful for. Although many of our loved ones could not be with us to celebrate his first birthday, they were not forgotten. I would have to say that one of my favorite moments at the party was when eveyone sang 'Happy Birthday' to Luke. When Joyce and I were holding him at the cake, that was the first time we were together at the party...because he was crawling around enjoying all of his friends...I do not think that he was looking for us at all. At the cake, during the candle burning, and the song singing, he was with us, and he knew that we were together, and even though he may not have known what the song was about, he seemed to really enjoy it. I will go as far as to say that that was the best rendition of the song that I have ever heard. That point was my favorite part of the day. We looked at him, and he looked at us, and I just felt so much love and thanks for our family.

The theme of the party was 'Sesame Street Babies'. Auntie Shelah and Auntie Sheena had fun with Luke, and Uncle Carlos drew caricatures (a special one for Luke). Luke's grandparents had a grand time, and of course, Joyce and I truly had a blessed time. It was so nice to have our family and friends together to celebrate.

Road Trip

Our friends, Sherine and John, stopped by during their coast-to-coast road trip. This dynamic duo has decided to take a 1-year honeymoon touring this great land. It was very nice to hang out. We did pinch some tail while they were in town. Uh, that means, we ate crawfish. Man, John and I wanted spicy, and whoo-wee, that was spicy. Luckily, there was plenty of lemonade to wash it down with. Mmmm Hmmm, nothing like an ice-cold soft drink with your crawfish.

Our trip to Philly, Jersey, and NY

We went to the East Coast for several reasons. We had not seen the family in Philly since Luke was born. Also, our bro-in-law's sis was getting engaged. So... we had a whirlwind tour of 3 states. A lot accomplished, a lot of good times... tiring... but SO worth it!

Luke is standing and addressing Cousin Mason's mom and niece (Katherine). In his address, he did mention that he does not need to refer to notes, then flung his speech behind him... I don't know what that was about, but I did NOT inquire. Luke gets that was sometimes... :)

Man, San Antonio was wonderful! The weather was beautiful. It was an action-packed trip, and plenty of fun. Our roadtrip led us to the Radisson Hill Country Resort in San Antone. We spent the evening there, then headed to SeaWorld the next day. We had a lot of fun. We'll have to do this again, right D, B, and G?

This year, we got together in Tampa, Florida. We had a great time. We usually do this in July, but since Heather and Soby were due around the usual time, we moved it up. Man, was it a good time!

Here is me and Luke on the beach, in a tent. It was really beautiful in Tampa / St. Petersburg, Florida. What was really nice was that me and Luke had a little cat-nap under the shade on the beach. It was so serene...a nice breeze and the sound of the bay, and my little boy, snuggled up next me.

We are happy to announce that Matt and Ryn are engaged! If we time it right, our annual get-together can coincide with their honeymoon. Guys, wouldn't it be great if there were 20 of us with you on your honeymoon?
Here we are, on the street's of Ybor City, the most happening place in...Ybor City? Yeah, we never heard of the place, but it was quaint and nice. Oh...can you spot the aforementioned Heather and Soby? Hint: Soby is about to hug Heather's tummy.

Here is Luke and Owen putting Spiderman to sleep. As George Uncle can attest to, Luke's Daddy seems to have always been fond of Spidey. Genetics?

Actually, the water was beautiful and comfortable.
As I look at this picture, I reflect on how great it was, and is, to be surrounded by loving family and friends. It is funny, the day before the trip is over, there is a sweet sorrow that the trip is coming to an end, but there is hope and excitement soon after, as we anticipate our next trip!We had the last flight out, so we decided to check out the Aquarium. We liked it. We rank it as a "nice experience".

You know, when we were first married, we talked about the observation that you can pick out married couples from dating couples because the married ones look around. I observed that with Joyce (meaning she is an eater+watcher), but she never admitted it...until this video. I secretly taped her at the airport (this video is from 2005)!

Well, Luke has been getting around the house now. We allow and encourage his inquisitive nature and enjoy watching as he researches his surroundings. One day, he crawled into the bathroom. I snuck up on him to see him innocently occupying himself in a very simple manner. Very cute! I like how he felt someone watching.

Happy Easter everyone!

What a beautiful day in Houston, Texas! We had a nice Easter. We had an early start, went to Church, spent time with family for lunch, went over to paint some eggs and hunt for eggs, and also, visited our cousins and their new puppy.

At Donny, Brenda, and Greyson's place, we enjoyed egg painting and egg hunting, not to mention, hanging out in the backyard where Luke, Sherry, Stanley, Alvin, Christine, Stacy, and the rest of us had a good ol' time!

San Marcos, Texas - Shop til you drop?

Man! We were at the Outlet Malls for literally 10+ hours (minus an hour to go to Wonder World, a natural site-seeing type of venue). Cousin Alvin joined us as we set out to enjoy good times, as well as find good deals on stuff. We thoroughly tested out a BabyBjorn (carrying device for Luke; thanks for lending it to us Roby/Heth!) as well. Check out the picture of Alvin feeding Luke his breakfast (you gotta love Luke's bed head!). We successfully filled up the back of our van with good deals.

Moody Gardens - Galveston

We took advantage of some time off and went to Galveston, TX for some R&R and QT. We stayed at the Inn at the Waterfront and spent most of our time at Moody Gardens. We had a good time. Check out the pix!

Crawfish anyone? By the way, I do not know why my iced tea came out foamy like that ;)

We took the opportunity to see 150+ items recovered from the Titanic wreckage at the bottom of the Atlantic. No trace of Leonardo DiCaprio, though (watch the movie).

These are two interesting pictures. The one with Daddy makes Luke look like a little boy, as opposed to a little baby (Praise the Lord! Luke is almost 8 1/2 months now!). The one with Mommy seems to indicate that Luke has something up-his-sleeve (looks like he is planning something, let's say, something naughty...but he's so cute though!).

Gymboree

Luke loves going to Gymboree. You see him pushing an air log with a little friend, trying to get his sea legs, and finally relaxing in the tube. The video here is pretty cute (and funny). You can watch Luke enjoy bubbles, then react to a little friend invading his personal space, then defend himself by trying to cover up (just kidding about that part).

We find it funny to see the progression of his "looks" of entertainment as he spends time in his little pen :)

We do not keep him in there for long periods of time, so as not to tarnish the novelty, but he does not seem to be the biggest fan of the pack-n-play. Nonetheless, it has been very useful as he continues to grow and find ways to move around (at least he stays put in here)...

We threw some plastic balls in there (good deal at WalMart; 100 for less than $10), and he liked that...but not as much as we thought...

This last Superbowl was AMAZING (sorry Kate and Erik). We enjoyed a great game with good friends and good food. About 30 of our family/friends gathered at our place to watch the New York Giants defeat the New Patriots 17-14. What a game! It will probably rank as one of the most entertaining for many folks.

The Folks Visit from Chicago

Our Mom and Dad (Mummy and Pappa) visited us on Super Bowl weekend. We had a nice time catching up. It had been a few months since we all saw each other. Also, the three of us were getting over the flu or a cold or something. We found out, the hard way, that Luke has an allergy to Amoxicillin, because he broke out in a rash. We also had to use a nebulizer on him for his congestion. It was a rough week and a half, but when Mummy and Pappa came down, we were feeling much better.

Luke says..."Breakfast feels a little too early today. By the way, how's my hair?"

Here's Pappa putting a chain and cross on Luke. Luke later edited his shirt to read 'I Love GrandDaddy'. Our poor little Luke had to have albuterol nebulization three times a day for a week. He's feeling better. Please continue to pray for his good health and happiness. Actually, after his allergic reaction to amoxicillin, he also had to have a course of prednisone (steroid) for 5 days. This time was probably our roughest time since he has been with us. Thankfully, we were delivered through His grace and mercy.

Luke loves his Uncle Alvin! Our cuz Alvin has hung out with Luke quite a bit since he has been here (Luke, that is). Alvin recently purchased a home in downtown Houston. "Well", says Luke, "I guess we'll be taking some road trips to Uncle Alvie's place". Albeit, it's only 30-minutes away, that's about 24-minutes longer than normal. Best wishes for safety, fun, and happiness in Uncle Alvie's new home! Luke added "Oh, I hope he doesn't have cloth furniture. I sometimes have a problem with non-wipeable furniture."

In so many ways, our friends Erik and Kate have made life so enjoyable for us. Uncle Randy and Aunt Esther and family have been so great to know and spend time with and enjoy good times. It was nice for us all to coordinate busy schedules and get together for a wonderful meal.

Kate attempts to have Luke join her for a pose, but meanwhile, Luke is thinking "Head Chef Uncle Erik is blocking my view of the specimen dissection, I mean, the slicing of the piggy, I mean pork loin".

Thanksgiving in Chattanooga

We enjoyed a splendid time in TN this past November. Our cousins Rob and Heth (and Big Boy O) hosted a fun and memorable time. We spent a good amount of time outdoors, and the weather was nice (well, maybe except a really frigid night in the mountains. Nonetheless, it was a blast!

Luke is a good boy. Happy and healthy, thanks to God. It is odd to see him "irritated", but lately, he has been a little, probably because he is teething.
